The earliest recorded history of people practicing yoga, goes back over two thousand years ago. It is generally considered to be of Indian origin because of murals and paintings found on Temple walls and in books, which depicted all these various positions and shapes that the human body was performing.
It was thought at first to be connected to religion because of the content relating to acquiring spiritual and self realization, however, without doubt there is a spiritual connotation to the feeling of inner peace felt by the practitioner.
It is also the feel good factor of self confidence and a healthy attitude to the way of the world and human nature. This is also a very valid reason for connecting spirituality to the original concept of yoga.
For example, practicing yoga techniques begin with the health of the physical body, then channels right through to the mind. This in turn brings a wonderful improvement on the state of mental, emotional, and ultimately inner peace and spiritual well being.
Without doubt, it was sent to us by a higher force that understood the needs of mankind in the search for enlightenment and the true path to self realization.
I do not think it is, or should be attached to any particular religion, because my belief is that it was given to all mankind to show the way to peace, love, and the true path to the human soul.
Yoga includes the practice of breathing exercises which have been proven to be a wonderful benefit to those suffering with asthma.
These exercises are also most beneficial to middle aged and elderly people who find they are not as fit as they used to be, and are finding that normal daily chores are getting a little bit more tiresome for them to perform.
If you are one of the many people who just want to do yoga to develop a fitter, healthier body with more suppleness and flexibility, then you could not have picked a better exercise program.
You will immediately feel the difference in your physical health, and just as importantly your mental health. Begin right now on your path to becoming more self confident, discovering self realization, and a complete feeling of well being.
